The scenery is gorgeous, especially the first stretch from Irun to San Sebastian.
Even though the Camino del Norte doesn’t have the climb over the Pyrenees, it is a physically challenging Camino with a lot of climbs along the rocky Biscayan coast.
The climate on this route is quite different from the Camino Frances. It isn’t called the “green coast” for no reason. The weather on the Nothern Route is much cooler, and with more rain than the other routes. The northern route is much less traveled than the French route, and some path is very steep and slippery when wet, other paths are more like a cross country climbs than an actual walking path – so make sure to bring a good pair of hiking booth, hiking sticks, and good rain gear.
