Getting to the Camino
You can start your Camino wherever you feel like it!
You can step out of your door and walk from home, this was for the obvious reasons, the traditional way, and even though few pilgrims still do this, you will probably need to fly in and/or take the train to wherever you have decided to embark on your Camino.
The infrastructure in the northern part of Spain is excellent – you have the option to fly into many of the major cities on the Camino or to fly into Madrid or Barcelona and take the train to your decided starting point.
If you decide to fly into Madrid or Barcelona and take the train up, you might want to book a hotel for the first night. Remember to book the train as well – trains do sellout in Spain.
Going back home again
I never book the flight home in advance.
I like to be able to walk in my own pace, listen to my body. Maybe I will walk 30 km a day, maybe only 15, maybe I need to stay in one place for a couple of days. As a result, I do not know exactly, in advance, from where, or precisely when I will be going home again.
This is of course only my make take on my Camino, your Camino is your Camino, and you should do whatever you feel comfortable doing!
